Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Lionheart Chorus being formed?
The chorus is being formed to give men, who may never have sung publicly before, the chance to enjoy the experience of learning a few songs, making new friends, improving their wellbeing, and entertaining family and friends, without a long term commitment.
Also, the chorus will collectively raise money for the British Heart Foundation, supporting the charity's research into heart disease, which is the biggest killer of men in the UK.
Do I need any group singing experience?
Not at all. Lionheart Chorus is especially for men who’ve never sung in a group before. You don’t need to read music or have a “perfect voice”. If you think you can sing in tune, have enthusiasm and a willingness to give it a go we want to meet you. Karaoke singers, ex choir boys and those who sing in the shower are most welcome!
What if I have sung before?
Brilliant! We have places available for men with some previous singing experience. You’ll be part of the full group, helping to lift the sound and support those who are new.
Is there an audition?
No — there’s no formal audition. You will be invited to a Meet and Greet evening when we do a relaxed voice check to help place you in the right part (tenor, lead, baritone or bass). This also helps us identify, very gently and supportively, anyone who might find the musical challenge simply too great. We want every singer to enjoy the experience — and that means making sure everyone can hold a basic tune.
Is there a cost to take part?
Yes — there’s a £20 fee, which covers room hire, music materials, publicity and a British Heart Foundation t-shirt for the final performance. Beyond that, we ask each singer to create a JustGiving page and raise what they can for this life-saving cause.
When and where are the rehearsals?
Every Monday evening from 3rd November to 8th December, held at The Village Hotel, Chilwell Retail Park, between Nottingham and Derby. Rehearsals are upbeat, well-organised, and always end with the chance to share a drink and a chat.
What if I can’t make every rehearsal?
We get it — life’s busy. If you miss a session, we’ll help you catch up with learning tracks and resources. That said, we encourage regular attendance, especially in the run-up to the final performance.
What will we be singing?
You’ll learn a small, varied set of songs — including some Christmas favourites — all arranged in rich four-part a cappella harmony (unaccompanied singing). The harmonies are sensational, and the sound we create together will give you goosebumps.
What happens at the end?
On Sunday 14th December, we perform for friends and family at the Player Hall, Nottingham High School. It’s a relaxed, joyful pre-Christmas celebration of everything we’ve worked for — a night to be proud of.
How do I sign up?
Easy — just visit our Facebook page and register your interest. We'll then send you an invite to one of the info evenings on 13th or 20th October.
